| Good praise for un-sung hero… | ||||

Clint Gooding was just one name that Whitstable manager Mark Munday was keen to heap praise on after his sides two-one victory over much fancied Walton & Hesham. “Clint had a great game, in the first half with Sam Denley alongside he held us together in the middle when they were enjoying more of the ball. He is a bit of an un-sung hero, the sort of player who is happy to pull on a pair of boots do what needs doing without complain or histrionics, he is a great team man. At half time I said to the lads to keep clam it was so important that when we went the one goal behind to keep it tight and told the team whoever gets the next goal will go on and win the game. “The boys up front and out wide worked their socks off in the very heavy conditions, which put pressure on their back line and stopped them getting their midfield involved. I must also say that Gary Sayer at the back was outstanding, with Stephen Lloyd alongside and Kevin, (Fewell) having yet another great game in goal for the club, it was so important we kept clam and did not panic in the first half when were had the worst of the conditions and went a goal down. Dolly, (Dan Dolton) and Kieran Morris both put in some excellent crosses and again it’s all about putting pressure on the opposition and not letting them play their game. And of course Stuart’s (Vahid) two goals were both well taken, the pen under pressure and a fantastic glancing header from ‘Dolly’s’ cross was just reward from the hard work they all put in. “It was a great three points against a very good side, but the manner in which we played, particularly the way we dug in during the first half was very pleasing. I shall be out and about this week watching two maybe three games to make sure that we are as prepared as possible for every match from now until the end of the season. |
